Forrest Moon Jar

Sale price$220.00

A hand thrown stoneware moon jar, fired to cone 6 on the Garden Island of Kaua'i.

Traditionally, moon jar is a type of Korean white porcelain which was made during the Joseon dynasty. Potters love the shape of moon jars because of its unique, slightly imperfect, rounded form that embodies the aesthetic of simplicity, purity, and austerity.

Studio Tanah's Moon jars are all made of stoneware, although they embody the same spirit as its traditional counterpart. Although Moon jars are typically use for decorative purposes, our vessels are also glazed on the inside so that you can hold flowers, wine, or anything else you might conjure your imagination to store in it.

What is Stoneware?

Stoneware pottery is fired at high temperatures to make it strong, hard, and resistant to liquids (non-porous). It is made from clay, but it is more durable than other kinds of pottery and earthenware. The reason it is called "stoneware" is because of its stone-like qualities, so you can expect something that is rugged, durable, and exudes natural feeling.

Care instructions

While stoneware and the glaze I use is 100% food-safe, microwave safe, and dishwasher friendly, to retain the beautiful colors, I do recommend hand washing and not using them in microwaves. Although stoneware is tough, it could still chip if it is bashed so please handle your pots with care.
